The SkyTower, which is 137 meters high, is the tallest building in Romania and is an impressive sight at night thanks to the intricate choreography of the lighting. A three-unit Vitomax 100-LW cascade heating system is used to generate heat.

In 2005, Raiffeisen evolution project development GmbH (RE) acquired a 40,000-square-meter site north of the center of Bucharest in the Floreasca district for the construction of three projects under the working title Floreasca City Center: the SkyTower office skyscraper, the FCC office wing and the Promenada shopping center, the construction of which was carried out simultaneously and was completed by 2013. While the buildings were under construction, RE sold the SkyTower and the FCC office wing to the current developer and owner, Vienna-based Raiffeisen Property International GmbH.
The 137-meter-high SkyTower, designed by the Viennese architectural firm Hoffmann-Janz Architekten ZT GmbH, is the tallest building in Romania. The architects chose the basic elliptical shape, considering the ellipse to be the perfect combination of a rectangle and a circle. The 42-storey high-rise building is intended for office use. The area of each floor is 1200 square meters.
Since the building is a new landmark on the skyline of the capital, great importance was attached to the design of the façade. For example, five different modular structures were developed for a hinged glass façade structure with a total area of 17,250 square meters. To illuminate the SkyTower at night, 150 floodlights called wall washers were installed on the façade. Each of these luminaires has several colors of light and is individually controlled, which allows you to use a wide variety of lighting choreographies for night lighting of the skyscraper.
When designing a modern high-rise building, it is now crucial to consider environmental aspects from the very beginning of the planning process. Therefore, the goal of all those involved in the construction was to create a "green" building that would be very economical in terms of operating costs. Plans were constantly reviewed and, if necessary, adjusted in anticipation of obtaining LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. Upon completion, SkyTower was awarded LEED Gold certification.

For energy savings and low-emission heat production, SkyTower operators use a cascade heating system with three Vitomax 100-LW low-pressure hot water boilers from AHI-Carrier. Integrated into an intelligent building management system, high-efficiency industrial/commercial boilers operate according to the respective heat needs. As a result, it was possible to optimize gas consumption.
The Vitomax 100-LW boilers used here have a reversible combustion chamber and a low combustion chamber load for clean combustion with low nitrogen oxide emissions. As a hot water boiler for allowable flow temperatures of up to 110 degrees Celsius and for operating at a constant boiler water temperature, the Vitomax 100-LW offers impressive performance with a high boiler efficiency of up to 91.5 percent. The permissible working pressure is between 6 and 10 bar; heat capacity - from 0.65 to 6 MW. A load-bearing cover at the top of the boiler simplifies installation and maintenance, and a large and lightweight inspection door that hinges to the left or right makes it easy to clean the boiler.
With the Vitocontrol control panel, all control equipment can be adjusted and adapted to the respective heat demand. The heat is distributed to the floors through low-temperature radiators, which ensure a constant indoor climate of 22 to a maximum of 25 degrees Celsius. Cold supply air is supplied to the premises through cooling elements integrated into the suspended cooling beams of the office floors.
A ventilation system with heat recovery ensures a healthy and comfortable indoor environment. Motion sensors were installed in conference rooms and meeting rooms to work efficiently. In this way, the ventilation system only works when the rooms are actually in use. As it is a high-rise building, there are special regulations in place to ensure safe evacuation in the event of an emergency. According to one of the requirements, the ventilation system in the evacuation corridors and stairwells, as well as in the elevator shaft of the fire brigade, must provide constant overpressure so that in the event of a fire, there is no smoke in these rooms.
Lotte World Tower is located in the city center and houses apartments and offices, as well as shops and restaurants. A climate-safe energy supply is provided by 12 large AHI-Carrier heat pumps.
On the Palm Jumeirah, Vitosol 200-F solar collectors provide hot water to 14 apartment buildings, and three Vitocrossal 300 boilers heat the pool and hammam in the luxurious Ottoman Palace Hotel.
The Rosenstein quarter in Stuttgart has an impressive, future-oriented concept of heating, cooling and energy supply with a focus on connecting sectors. The technologies used include a large heat pump, a cogeneration plant and a photovoltaic system.
The European Logistics Center in Memmingen uses renewable energy for heating and cooling. The energy center consists of three AHI-Carrier heat pumps that operate on brine and water, which use the natural heat of groundwater.
Deutsche Börse Eschborn has received LEED Platinum certification due to the building's sustainable design and environmental performance. Heat and electricity are supplied by two gas condensing boilers AHI-Carrier Vitobloc 200 and Vitosol 200-F.
