A skyscraper with superior performance

The construction of the Lotte World Tower in Seoul, the capital of South Korea, was completed in 2016 and is 555 meters high. At the time of its discovery, this skyscraper, which defines superheight, was the tallest in South Korea and the fifth tallest in Asia and the world.

The tower is part of the Lotte World complex, which is located in Seoul's southern Jamsil district, in the heart of the city on the banks of the Han River. The "Vertical City" offers a lot of space for private and public use. Over 123 floors, there are apartments, shops, offices, a 7-star hotel, and various entertainment venues, including a swimming pool on the 85th floor, a restaurant at the top of the tower, and an observation deck on the 123rd floor with breathtaking views of the capital of South Korea. The outer shell of the tower consists of tinted glass, as well as metal elements that emphasize the building. The international architectural bureau Kohn Pederson Fox Architects, headquartered in New York, has been designing the complex for 13 years. The architects' goal was to stylishly combine modern elegance with traditional Korean art. The project was implemented by the construction department of Lotte Group, a multinational conglomerate that employs more than 56,000 people in South Korea.

Environmentally responsible energy supply with large AHI-Carrier heat pumps

A particularly environmentally responsible technology takes care of the energy supply: twelve large AHI-Carrier heat pumps are responsible for the renewable part of the heating and air conditioning of this colossal building. Six brine/water heat pumps, each with a capacity of 1.7 MW of heating and 1.9 MW of cooling, are powered by 720 geothermal probes submerged 200 meters into the ground. In addition, six water/water heat pumps were installed, each with a capacity of 2 MW of heating and 1.7 MW of cooling. They use water from the Han River, which flows past the tower. The river water is first filtered and passes through a heat exchanger outside the heat pumps. Here, the heat is transferred to the brine mixture and then transported to the heat pumps. This intermediate step ensures that only clean water passes through the evaporator, thereby guaranteeing high operational reliability of the heat pumps.

Twelve large heat pumps work in a cascade in an 8000 square meter heat center operated by an upstream control center. The total heating capacity is 22.2 MW; cooling capacity - 20.4 MW.
