The demand for hot water for household needs varies greatly from home to home. The most important factors influencing this demand are the number of people living in the house and their bathing and showering habits. For example, if three family members must leave for work and school at the same time, a constant supply of hot water is essential for showering, without keeping anyone waiting. If only one person needs hot water at a time, the demand is typically different.
Those who prefer baths also want to have enough hot water to fill the tub. The water heater also needs to be capable of providing sufficient water if, for example, in an apartment building, hot water is drawn from several outlets simultaneously.
Viessmann Vitocell hot water cylinders meet these requirements in every respect and can accommodate any preference when it comes to the level of equipment. These appliances can be combined with various heat generators. Vitocell hot water cylinders are equally well suited for dual-mode operation with a condensing boiler, as well as for use with an environmentally friendly heat pump or solid fuel boiler. In all cases, installing a solar thermal system is recommended , allowing you to save energy and heat water cost-effectively.
Domestic hot water can be produced in various ways. If domestic hot water is produced centrally, connection to the existing heating system is mandatory. In this case, the heat generator not only provides space heating but also guarantees the availability of hot water at any time of day.
Decentralized hot water heating is also possible. Electric hot water systems , such as the Viessmann Vitotherm, are often used for this purpose. They are not connected to the heating system and can be easily retrofitted. It doesn’t matter whether the appliances are storage or instantaneous.
The Viessmann Vitotrans 353 module for fresh water can also be used with a central or decentralized DHW heating system. These modules complement the water heating buffer cylinders in the Vitocell product range. Domestic hot water is heated conveniently and hygienically using the instantaneous hot water principle. There is no storage of hot water. Instead, fresh water is heated to the required temperature using the energy captured by the water heating buffer cylinder. These cylinders can be combined with various systems.

Connecting a hot water cylinder to an existing heating system makes sense for both economic and environmental reasons. After all, if heat is generated from free solar energy using a solar thermal system , there’s no need to burn fossil fuels, which is beneficial for nature and the environment. Whether used with a traditional boiler or in combination with a solar thermal system, Viessmann, as a one-stop supplier, offers the right water heater for every need.
Viessmann hot water cylinders are characterized by high efficiency, versatility, and ease of installation. They are available in a variety of designs:
Cylinder capacities range from 120 to 1,000 liters, depending on the model. This makes Viessmann hot water cylinders suitable not only for detached homes but also for buildings with high hot water demand.
A dual-mode DHW cylinder is an essential component of a solar thermal system. This is because it absorbs the heat generated by the system and transfers it to the water. Viessmann dual-mode DHW cylinders feature two separate internal indirect coils and heat water from both the solar thermal system and the boiler. This ensures the desired temperature is constantly maintained. Cylinders are made of steel with a Ceraprotect enamel coating (Vitocell 100-V, Vitocell 100-W, Vitocell 100-B, Vitocell 100-U) or stainless steel (Vitocell 300-V, Vitocell 300-H, Vitocell 300-B).
The quality of the internal surface of the DHW cylinder is crucial for the hygienic provision of hot water. Therefore, Viessmann relies on two high-quality materials: Ceraprotect enamel coating for reliable and long-lasting corrosion protection – used for the Vitocell 100 series; and stainless steel – used for the Vitocell 300 series, which meets the highest hygiene requirements.
A heating water buffer tank temporarily stores excess energy generated by the heat generator and returns it to the heating system only when needed. The stored energy can be used to heat heating circuits or domestic hot water. Water heating buffer cylinders, such as the Vitocell 120-E or Vitocell 140-E , are also factory-equipped for dual-mode operation with a heat pump or solar thermal system. These units hold up to 2,000 liters.
By default, most hot water cylinders with a cylinder capacity requiring identification (up to 500 liters) comply with energy efficiency class B. For certain cylinder types, you can select energy efficiency class A or B. Class A cylinders are insulated with an additional vacuum panel, which reduces heat loss and, consequently, energy costs.

The Vitocell product range offers the perfect DHW cylinder for local authorities and commercial applications. Choose from our extensive selection of DHW cylinders to suit your application and installation needs. Viessmann DHW cylinders for use in local authorities offer versatility in heating systems with multiple heat generators and heat consumers, thanks to multiple flow and return connections, as well as additional connections for test points. Multiple DHW cylinders (Vitocell 100-V) can be combined using manifolds to form cylinder blocks to meet larger hot water demands.
