The heart of the heating plant is a cogeneration plant that uses the principle of cogeneration to generate heat and electricity at the same time. The heat generated in this way is used for space heating and hot water for domestic use. Mechanical energy is converted directly into electricity and is used, among other things, to drive a heat pump.

Ice energy storage serves as heat storage

The ice storage consists of a tank with built-in heat exchangers, which is buried in the ground in the open air and filled with ordinary tap water. Special solar air absorbers are installed on the roof of the house. They take heat from the surrounding air and from solar radiation and feed it into storage. The ice storage also receives energy directly from the ground. The heat pump extracts the energy needed for central heating and DHW heating from the water stored in the tank as needed. If the temperature in the tank drops to freezing, more energy is extracted from the freezing water – hence the term "ice storage". At the end of the heating season, there is a selective formation of ice, which can then be used as a cooling source to keep the building cool on hot days. Changes in the physical state in the regeneration mode can be repeated as often as necessary: the technology requires almost no maintenance. A package of energy technologies is used as a contract model.

Two Vitocrossal 200 gas condensing boilers cover the peak load

Stadtwerke Güüstrow GmbH supplies the housing cooperative with heat and electricity from two Vitobloc 200 cogeneration plants. Two Vitocrossal 200 gas condensing boilers provide heat during peak loads. Combined heat and power plants provide sufficient heat and electricity for 500 households. The modules run on bionatural gas within the scope of the Renewable Energy Act 2012.

The Vitoflex 300-RF biomass boiler heats rooms with pellets. The storage container, located at the top of the heating container, holds 18 tons of pellets. A screw conveyor and gravity ensure seamless refilling of the environmentally friendly combustion system.
