By purchasing a Viessmann heating system, you’re choosing a high-quality product designed for economical operation. You’re also helping protect the environment. This is because Viessmann heat generators operate extremely efficiently, saving on fossil fuels.
And if it’s a wood-burning heating system, the entire heating process is completely CO₂-neutral. The first steps are especially important to ensure your Viessmann heating system operates safely, reliably, and as economically as possible. You can read about what to pay attention to in the following sections.
Explore the features of your new Viessmann heating system
Every Viessmann heating system features innovative and sophisticated heating technology. From fuel delivery, heat generation, and heat output, every process is carefully designed and coordinated. At the same time, Viessmann heating systems are easy to operate and understand thanks to intuitive controls. However, when taking your first steps, it’s still important to consult with your heating contractor for guidance.
Adaptation of heating capacity to the building
Every building is different. This also applies to the heating practices of its residents. Therefore, a new heating system must meet both of these requirements and also have the required rated heating output. Viessmann heaters are available in a wide range of outputs, so they can meet any heating need. To maximize the efficiency of your new heater, the factory settings should still be adjusted to suit your needs. For example, in weather-compensated systems, the heater output can be adjusted by adjusting the heating curve. The goal is to consume only as much energy as necessary without compromising comfort. Work with your heating contractor to establish the optimal curve. Ask them to explain the difference between slope and level. Ideally, you’ll be able to handle this task yourself in the future. You can read more about this process in our guide on adjusting the heating curve .
Customize programs to suit your needs
Viessmann heaters are factory-equipped with numerous modes that significantly enhance ease of use. Depending on the heater, you can activate Holiday Mode, Party Mode, and/or Reduced Mode in just a few simple steps. As the name suggests, these default settings are designed for these situations. Individual modes can also be customized, providing the optimal basis for a customized setup. Ask your heating contractor for step-by-step instructions, or refer to the operating instructions included with your system.
Register your heating system and get a warranty extension
Once the heating system is operational, that’s the most important thing you’ve done. The next step is to make your new Viessmann heating system as user-friendly and reliable as possible. In addition to the statutory warranty, you also receive a Viessmann warranty on your new heating system. This ensures you’ll always be protected. Even greater peace of mind can be achieved by extending the warranty on your heat generator. This provides an extended 5-year warranty, in addition to the statutory warranty.
Convenient online registration
Registering your product online couldn’t be easier. Simply open the following link and enter the 16-digit serial number of your new heating system (and other components, if applicable).
The serial number can be found on the nameplate of your heat generator or on the invoice .
After successful registration, your product’s warranty will be automatically extended. You will receive a personalized system certificate along with your confirmation email. Detailed information on this matter, as well as detailed instructions, can be found on the Viessmann warranty page .
Connect your heating system to the Internet
Most Viessmann boilers equipped with a Vitotronic control unit are ready for internet control. All you need is a communication module and the appropriate app for your smartphone or tablet. For most gas and oil boilers installed since 2004 (heat pumps since 2010 and solid fuel boilers since 2016), a combination of the Viessmann Vitoconnect as an interface and the ViCare app as an application is recommended. For more complex systems, the Vitocom in combination with the Vitotrol app is the preferred device. Both interfaces—Vitoconnect and Vitocom—are available as options and are quick to install. Both apps—ViCare and Vitotrol—are available for Android and iOS devices and can be downloaded free of charge from the respective app stores:
Control your new Viessmann heating system with your smartphone
If you’ve equipped your new Viessmann heating system with one of the two interfaces, all you need to do is download the corresponding app. Once installed on your chosen device (smartphone or tablet), you can connect the app to your new Viessmann heating system in just a few steps. You’ll immediately see all the important information about your system and be able to activate the desired mode (normal mode, party mode, etc.) with a single tap on the screen – from anywhere. Another advantage is that you can grant your heating contractor access to your heat generator, allowing them to respond as quickly as possible to any issues that arise.

It’s recommended to start thinking about maintenance immediately after commissioning a new heating system. This will ensure reliable and cost-effective operation of your newly installed heating system for years to come. We recommend checking with your heating contractor to see if they offer maintenance services. If so, you can sign a customized maintenance contract with them that covers only the services you’ve specified. For information on what to consider when signing such a contract, as well as general maintenance, please read our guide to heating system maintenance .
Solar Thermal System, Fuel Supply, and Other Tips
Along with traditional heat generators, Viessmann’s extensive product range includes systems that allow you to harness the sun’s free energy and supplement your heating system in a useful way. A solar thermal system is ideal for heating hot water, reducing the load on your new heating system while protecting the environment. Ask your heating contractor if installing such a system is worthwhile.
After installing a modern heating system, you should also consider ensuring an adequate fuel supply if your new heating system uses combustion technology. Before the start of each heating season, you should ensure your fuel supply is topped up. Spring is the recommended time to top up your fuel supply. This is because demand typically drops by this time, and ideally, so does the price.
